Methodology
- Dataset
- NYC Open Data, DOB Permits Issued. Filtered to currently-ISSUED sidewalk shed permits (permit subtype SH).
- Date range
- Point-in-time snapshot of currently-ISSUED permits only.
- Query logic
- Active ISSUED sidewalk shed permits are grouped by (borough, block). Distinct buildings are identified by (lot, house number, street name) within each block, so renewal permits for the same shed do not inflate the count. Each block is ranked by its count of distinct buildings with active sheds.
- Exclusions
- Expired, cancelled, or revoked permits. Permits with missing borough or block fields. Non-sidewalk-shed permit subtypes.
